This is a dance concert by the 1st through 4th year students of the Japanese Dance, Nagauta and Nagauta Shamisen majors.
We hope to convey the charm of traditional Japanese performing arts, which we are usually not familiar with, to many people through this gorgeous and elegant dance concert.

(4) Autumn Colored Species / Composer:Rokuzaemon Kineya  Ⅹ

This is a dance concert by the 1st to 4th year students of Japanese Dance, Nagauta and Nagauta Shamisen. First, the second-year students will perform “Kimigayo Shochikubai(pine, bamboo, and plum) “, a congratulatory song in which the pine trees represent “the legend of Hagoromo”, the bamboo trees represent the Noh play “Izutsu”, and the plum trees represent the full of plum blossoms. The first-year students will performe “Genroku Hanami Odori”, a gorgeous dance that evokes the image of cherry blossom viewing in the Genroku era, and the fourth-year students will perform  “Butterfly”, a dance that personifies butterflies dancing on peony flowers. Finally, the third-year students will perform “Autumn Colored Seeds”. The third-year students’ “Autumn Colored Seeds” closed the performance with the soothing sound of shamisen, expressing the cool sound of autumn insects. I would like to take this opportunity of Geisai to share with many people the charm of traditional Japanese performing arts, which we are usually not familiar with, through this gorgeous and elegant dance concert.

Sogakudo Organ Concert
10:30-11:35

Organ Department Volunteers

In the “Sogakudo Organ Concert” by volunteers from the Organ Department, eight organists from the second year of the undergraduate course to the doctoral course selected works filled with the various charms of the organ with the keyword “○○  on ○○”.
10:30-11:35
musical composition
(1) Prelude and Fugue in C major, BMV 545/J.S. Bach
(2) Organ Sonata No. 4 in B-flat major, 3rd and 4th movements/F. Mendelssohn
(3)Romanian Folk Dance/B. Bartok (arr. M. Shiozawa)
(4) Three Movements/J. Alain (arr. M.C. Alain)
(5) “Gigue” from “Twelve Pieces”/M. Reger
(6)Sonata No.2 in D minor, 3rd movement “Introduction and Fugue” Op.60 / M. Reger
(7)The Ascension of Christ No.3 “The Rising Exultation of the Soul that Has Made the Glory of Christ Its Own”/O. Messiaen
(8)Symphony No.3 with Organ, Part II (excerpts)/C. Saint-Saëns (Arr. by D. Kondo)

The large organ is the first thing you see when you enter the concert hall. In Europe, the organ developed as a church instrument over a long period of time. In Japan, however, it has been widely used in concert halls, and especially since the period of rapid economic growth, it has been installed in halls throughout the country, as “queen of instruments. Despite its presence and fame, few people feel an affinity for the organ, don’t they?  In the “Sogakudo Organ Concert” organized by volunteers from the Organ Department, eight students from the second year of the undergraduate course to the doctoral course in the Organ Department selected works filled with the various charms of the organ with the keyword “○○ on ○○”. In the organ original solo, we will perform works that allow you to enjoy the various aspects of the organ that differ from period to period and region to region, such as Bach of the Baroque period, Mendelssohn and Reger of the Romantic period, and Messiaen of the modern period. The organ, which is often played as a solo instrument, has a different appeal when played in an ensemble. This time, you can enjoy a performance with flute. The organ is an instrument that makes use of multiple hand and foot keys, as well as pipes with a variety of tones, so it can be played like an orchestra. We will perform Bartok’s “Romanian Folk Dances” and Saint-Saens’ “Symphony No. 3 with Organ” in organ arrangements. We hope that you can feel a different kind of charm from the original song.  The organ department is looking forward to seeing you at the concert.

The word “Koto” may give you a image of “ancient times” such as quietness and elegance, but as the title of this year’s”new” says, we challenged ourselves with a new piece, a modern piece. It has been a tradition for our department to perform together every year, either by grade or by the entire department, but this year we took on a different challenge with a new composition. We hope you enjoy the new style of Japanese music.
